The Amber Alert program is designed to save children by locating abducted or endangered children within the first 24-hours which are the most critical hours in an abduction. The power of free, over-the-air electronic media is the best way to quickly reach Michigan citizens who may have information leading to the return of a missing or abducted child. * WSCG-FM 106.3 Lakeview/Greenville switched format from Talk to Classic Hit Country on Saturday evening (6/16). Replacing programming from the Michigan Talk Radio Network (MTRN) is the biggest hits from the biggest stars of country music from the 1970's and 80's. "This is a natural move for us," said Tim Little, General Manager of WSCG Radio. "For years WCUZ was one of the most popular stations in this area. When they changed their format to Bob and Tom and Classic Rock that left a big void that we want to fill. We have talked with members of the community and conducted a small survey and it's clear that this music has been missed," Little said. WSCG-FM was one of the first stations in the state to join MTRN and was the first station to go on the air with the new network. "We are proud of our involvement with MTRN and I wish everyone there much success. While MTRN did not meet with the success we had hoped for in our coverage area, I still believe it will be an important part of Michigan radio," said Little. Before the January switch to Talk, the station's previous format was Country.

May 14:

* Will the FM dial be changing soon in Northern lower Michigan? Possibly! Here's a summary of a proposal and two counter proposals currently before the FCC:
- Initially, Escanaba Radio Company proposed a new Class C2 allocation in Cheboygan at 99.9 FM, forcing Northern Radio Network's WHAK-FM 99.9 (C2) Rogers City to move to 106.3 (C2).
- A counter proposal was filed by Northern Radio Network that would leave WHAK-FM at 99.9, but create two new FM allocations: 106.3 C2 Onaway and 98.7 C3 Cheboygan.
- Another counter proposal was then filed by Fort Bend Broadcasting. This one is the most complicated, but creates the most new allocations:
* Move WSRQ-FM 100.1 (A) Bear Lake to FM 99.9 (C1) Bellaire
* Move WHAK-FM 99.9 (C2) to 106.3 (C2)
* Change allotment of 98.9 (A) Walhalla to 106.5 (A)
* New allotment at 99.7 (A) Rapid River
* New allotment at 106.1 (A) Bear Lake
* Change allotment of 99.9 (A) Manistique to 100.9 (A)
* Move WKLA-FM 106.3 (A) Ludington to 98.7 (A)
Using history as a rule, the FCC generally likes to approve proposals that ultimately create new allocations for cities without a current radio service. The Fort Bend plan adds 3 new allocations (1 in the U.P., 2 in the Northwest lower peninsula).
Michiguide.com will report on where your favorite station might be moving after the FCC makes its ruling(s).
