Faced with one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history, Hurricane Katrina left in her wake an estimated 500,000 homeless across the southern states and over 80% of the city of New Orleans under water. The Motor City has always been known for its generosity and the RIFF is once again asking for you to join us as we help rebuild lives and cities with the WRIF Rock For Relief Auction!

Last week 101 WRIF kicked off dual auction efforts to raise much needed funding. Morning show hosts Drew and Mike hit the airwaves and offered up a daily featured item from sporting event tickets to tailgate parties for listeners to bid on. Listener response has been overwhelming and as a result Drew and Mike’s on air auctions will continue through this week with new items in the days to come. Every dime raised through the on air auctions will benefit the American Red Cross.

To give more listeners the chance to join in the cause, 101 WRIF took our fundraising efforts to the web as well as we posted a series of goods up for auction on eBay including autographed rock and sports memorabilia, concert tickets, RIAA record awards a complete Rolling Stones CD catalog and more! 100% of the online auction proceeds will benefit several relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina including the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Habitat For Humanity, Feed the Children and many more! To date the combined efforts have raised almost $20,000!

Items up for bid include autographed guitars from Puddle of Mudd, Metallica, Nickelback, Zakk Wylde, Kid Rock, Judas Priest, Staind, Tesla/Scorpions, Seether/Three Days Grace/Shinedown, KISS, Linkin Park, Motley Crue and Papa Roach, unique items like a signed microphone from Ozzy, a signed tablecloth from STP and autographed set list from Def Leppard, great items from the RIFF including the chance to program “Midnight Metal” in studio with Screamin’ Scott Randall, dinner with Arthur Penhallow, the VIP treatment as guest co-host with Doug Podell at our Wednesday night Wild Woody’s party, sweet items from The Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings and so much more! For full details on the auction and a complete list of items visit www.wrif.com.

101 WRIF has also partnered with Wild Woody’s to help take care of the children affected by this disaster. This Wednesday (September 14th) from 11am until midnight, listeners are encouraged to bring a toy, crayons, etc. to Wild Woody’s located at 32500 Gratiot between 13 and 14 Mile Roads across from Macomb Mall in Roseville. We will be filling the Wild Woody’s bus full of children’s toy donations and shipping them down the Gulf Coast!
