As of the first week of Janaury, Citadel Broadcasting officially completed the purchase of the Michigan Talk Radio Network and renamed it the Michigan Talk Network. Tim Hygh is MTN's new general manager. MTRN began operations on Janaury 1st 2001 under the direction of founders Dave and Martin Scott and has provided daily, weekend, and sports programming to radio stations across Michigan ever since.
Michigan Talk Network's "The Big Show" showed dramatic growth in Lansing's fall book at WJIM-AM 1240 with adults 25-54, doubling its listenership from the summer and has become the top-rated news-talk program in that demo. The Big Show boasts it is now a well-oiled team now, providing a full service/news talk machine. Dave Scott, MTRN co-founder and now Big Show host, is hitting his stride in Lansing with a support staff that includes executive producer Michael Patrick Shiels, co-host Tim Nester and news director Gary Austin.
The goal of The Big Show is to provide listeners with the most entertaining, edifying and marketable product possible and are looking forward to hearing the same kinds of ratings success stories from affiliates across Michigan.
Flint's WTRX-AM 1330 has just signed on as The Big Show's most recent affiliate and will begin broadcasting the program in Feburary.
