WLNS-TV 6 (CBS) and WHTV-TV 18 (UPN) have announced a three-year sales and operations agreement, which will commence on January 26th. Under the agreement, WLNS (owned by Young Broadcasting) will assume sales and technical operations duties for WHTV (owned by Spartan Broadcasting LLC). This new deal replaces a previous operating agreement between WHTV and WLAJ-TV (owned by Freedom Broadcasting). Freedom moved the technical operation of its Lansing facilities, including WLAJ and WHTV, to Kalamazoo sister station WWMT-TV in August 2005.
WLNS (formerly WJIM-TV) has been the CBS affiliate for the Lansing market since signing on in 1951. WHTV, formerly a low-power station serving the Jackson area, has been mid-Michigan's UPN affiliate since upgrading power in the fall of 2000.
