The Downtown Hoedown, a springtime fixture in Detroit's Hart Plaza for 23 years, will go on this year (May 19-21) with new promoters, Wasserman Media Group of Los Angeles and Arts Beats & Eats promoter Jon Witz, although its future was less than secure only a few months ago. Michael Watts, who promoted the Hoedown for the last nine years and worked with the festival for 22 of its 24 years, said Thursday that his verbal contract with the Detroit Recreation Department to produce this year's festival was canceled.
