Breaking The Ice With WaYfm: CORNERSTONE UNVERISTY Christian WAYG/GRAND RAPIDS and WAYK/KALAMAZOO (WaYfm) partnered with the DAN WOOD COMPANY and ICE SCULPTURES LIMITED to give away a new central air conditioning system to the first WaYfm listener to break through to the middle of a half ton block of ice freeing a key to the grand prize. Four WaYfm listeners were given four tools: a bottle opener, a cheese grater, a hair brush, and a frozen chicken; however, KRISTIE PRESTON of BATTLE CREEK was the first to accomplish the task in just 25 minutes.(Fri 5/26)

The Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences gave out its nominations for local television excellence last week. And West Michigan television is represented well in its quest for an Emmy. WOOD-TV (Channel 8), WWMT-TV (Channel 3), WXMI-TV (Channel 17), WZZM-TV (Channel 13) and WGVU-TV (Channel 35) all garnered nominations in a variety of categories, including Best Newscast, Breaking News, Investigative Reporting, Business, Human Interest and Historic programming... Local stations garner Emmy nominations (Sun 5/28)

One of the more innocuous explanations given to the Dixie Chicks as to why country radio hasn't been playing their new single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," is because the defiant song doesn't fit in with everything else that's playing on the dial. Upon hearing that, the Dixie Chicks have only two words to say: "Thank you"... Local radio avoids playing Dixie Chicks (Sun 5/28)
