The Detroit Tigers are for real. Yep, it's late June, but the Tigers remain atop the American League Central Division standings and continue to own the best record in the major leagues. Is that such a big surprise? No, according to Emmy Award-winning FSN broadcasters Mario Impemba and Rod Allen, who insisted during Sunday afternoon's interleague telecast between the Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals from Comerica Park that Detroit is a legit contender this summer... Muskegon Chronicle

After broadcasting major league baseball for parts of seven decades, one would think Ernie Harwell would be a pretty skilled prognosticator. But the legendary voice of the Detroit Tigers says he's just as surprised as anyone by the team's dominant performance this season. Harwell, 88, told The Chronicle during an interview Tuesday that he expected the Tigers to be mediocre this year, which would have been an improvement over most of the previous 13 seasons...
