In this week of sheer, crazed, leaded-gas-fumed Cruise mania, the question arises: Where can you find the best Cruise soundtrack? WOMC-FM (104.3) 's jocks will be broadcasting live tonight and Friday night from Duggan's Irish Pub on Woodward Avenue, and at various locations up and down the avenue on Saturday. But the station will mostly be doing "you are there" reporting. For the music that will take you back to the '50s and '60s cruise era, you can tune in to WOMC-2 , its HD (high definition) channel, which goes back to '55 for its oldies, in an automated, nonjock format ... WCSX-FM (94.7) will be broadcasting live from Woodward tonight and Friday night and all day Saturday, playing classic rock cruising tunes. Steve Kostan will be on the air live tonight and Friday from 6-10 p.m., giving updates on the ongoing action out on Woodward... Local jocks pump out Dream Cruise jams (Thu 8/17)

TV judge Greg Mathis remembers what it's like to be poor and uninformed. When he was a kid growing up in Detroit's Herman Gardens projects, he thought college was a rich kid's dream. But after the military turned him down because of his criminal record, a cousin told him about Eastern Michigan University and a whole new world opened up for him. He earned his GED, enrolled at Eastern and went on to graduate and eventually became the youngest judge to be elected in Michigan... Judge Mathis reaches out (Thu 8/17)

Detroit Free Press:

Detroit's Fox-owned and operated WJBK-TV (Channel 2) was facing a Federal Communications Commission inquiry Wednesday over two alleged instances of airing corporate-produced "video news releases" without proper disclosure. VNRs are presentations that look like news stories but promote commercial brands and products. WJBK is one of 77 broadcasters the FCC is checking on. Two Washington-based nonprofit watchdog agencies -- Free Press ( and not affiliated with this newspaper) and Center for Media and Democracy ( -- pursued the FCC action...
