Imagine a radio station that plays Lyle Lovett and Johnny Cash as well George Strait and Toby Keith. It's an idea Kevin Matthews, of WLAV-FM (96.9), has nurtured for eight years -- since his days on the air in Chicago. And now Matthews is doing something about it. The on-air radio veteran is programming WLAW-FM (92.5). The station also spins the likes of Willie Nelson and Bonnie Raitt, along with cutting-edge songs from new country artists. Imagine that: New and old country together on one station. The positioning statement is "Legends, Young Guns" and station name is "The Outlaw"... 'Outlaw' FM station touts unique mix of country (Wed 9/13)

It's a special treat for West Michigan Whitecaps broadcast partners Dave Skoczen and Dan Elve to be calling the Midwest League championship series. It represents a career highlight for both. Skoczen, 28, is completing his second season as the play-by-play voice of the Whitecaps for flagship radio station WBBL-AM (1340) and sixth overall as a minor-league broadcaster. Remember the days when Johnny Carson would talk to funny, irreverent, comedians on the "Tonight Show" couch? Nationally syndicated radio hosts Bob and Tom, heard locally during their morning show on WBFX-FM (101.3), are giving aspiring comedians a shot on their first television special, "Bob and Tom Radio: The Comedy Hour." In addition, a special-edition DVD will be released in conjunction with the comedy program to be sold in stores nationwide. "We spent $350,000 building a set, it was shot in HD, and everything looks extremely professional," Tom Griswold said during a recent phone interview with The Press...
