Aris Hampers, the long-time host of afternoon and nighttime radio shows and a proponent of new local music, was fired Wednesday by WBFX (The Fox 101.3). Skip Essick, Vice President and General Manager for Clear Channel Radio in Grand Rapids, confirmed Aris was released. "We wish him the best," Essick said. Calls to Hampers for comment were not immediately returned. He began his radio career in 1973... Rick Roberts, the long-time anchor for WOOD TV8, died Wednesday of a head injury suffered when he fell down stairs at his home. He was 59. Rick Roberts was the co-anchor with Suzanne Geha of the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts beginning in1983. Over the next 13 years, he anchored or co-anchored the evening, morning and mid-day newscasts. The anonymous caller seemed to know everything about television reporters Rachel Calderon and Kristi Andersen. He left "disgusting" messages about sexually assaulting them. The women feared being alone. Family and friends worried for their safety. Their stations heightened security.
