Local sports radio station WBBL-AM (1340) has been the exclusive provider of postseason baseball coverage in the Grand Rapids radio market for several years. Of course, everything is different this fall. The interest in the World Series has reached a fever pitch with the Detroit Tigers making their first appearance in the Fall Classic since 1984... Dave Conrad was off the air six weeks -- an eternity in radio, he says -- and he was afraid listeners would forget about him. It's an understatement to say the opposite happened. In his first 15 minutes back on the air Thursday afternoon, the B-93 radio host received more than 50 supportive e-mails from listeners, and the station switchboard lit up with calls from across West Michigan. Since he was severely injured in a September motorcycle accident, Conrad, who hosts the afternoon slot on WBCT-FM (93.7), said listener support has been overwhelming... Linda Paige, meteorologist at WZZM-TV (Channel 13), can predict the weather, but she never predicted the honor she will receive from the American Meteorological Society. Paige is the inaugural winner of an award for excellence in science reporting for her work on the series "The Great Lakes, An Endangered Legacy," which aired in the summer of 2005. The new award is in recognition of a single television report or a series that makes science topics, including environmental issues, accessible and interesting to the general public...
