National Public Radio affiliate and jazz station WBLU-FM/WBLV-FM (88.9/90.3) was off the air for several days recently because its transmitter was damaged by what officials believe was a lightning strike. General manager Dave Myers said the damage might have caused a leak, which in turn shorted out the transmitter, which is located in Hesperia... Blue Lake radio back on the air (Tue 9/26)

Lindsey Zabor has switched careers from news reporter/producer at WXMI-TV (Channel 17) to director of marketing and public relations at the Grand Rapids Children's Museum... WXMI reporter takes marketing post (Tue 9/26)

The plug is pulled on Aris' Hometown Rock Music Search this year. "I regret to announce that for the first time in 14 years, the Rock Search is canceled," local radio icon Aris Hampers said in an e-mail to The Press. Earlier this month, Hampers, a fixture on the airwaves for more than 30 years, was let go by WBFX-FM (101.3) owner Clear Channel because of what he described as a combination of ratings and economics... Want some adjectives to describe the new doctor in town? How about smart, intuitive, incisive, always able to lend a sympathetic ear, helpful to his guests, and oh yeah, let's not forget -- he's bald as a cue ball. Dr. Keith Ablow debuted on WOOD-TV (Channel 8) Sept. 11 and airs at 4 p.m. weekdays. He's a kinder, gentler "Dr. Phil" type, minus the pompous attitude. Watch his show a couple of times and you will find true moments of epiphany. You may recognize him from his appearances on the "Oprah Winfrey" "Montel Williams" or "Tyra Banks" shows...
