CMU comedy television show receives three national awards




"A-OK" is all right - and then some. The sketch comedy show on Central Michigan University's student-run Moore Hall Television recently brought home national honors in the 2006 College Broadcasters Inc. National Student Production Awards competition.

The program won three first-place awards Oct. 27 at the College Broadcasters Inc. Conference in St. Louis, Mo. "A-OK" was named Best Technical Production, Best Comedy and Best General Entertainment Program.

The student winners for "A-OK" include Mike Greiner, a senior from Grosse Pointe Woods; Dave Seger, a May 2006 graduate from St. Clair Shores; and Tom Kauffman, a May 2006 graduate from Muskegon.

"A-OK" aired on MHTV in spring 2006. Clips from the show can be viewed on CMU's Broadcast and Cinematic Arts Web site at

Two other MHTV shows also were finalists in the competition.

"Central View" was a finalist in the Best General Entertainment Program category. Its producers were CMU graduate assistant Ken Ochalek of Romeo and former graduate assistant J.R. Curtis of Bitely.

"MHTV Sports" was a finalist in the Best Sports Play-by-Play category. Producers of the program were Jason Dizik, a junior from West Bloomfield; Nate Blair, a sophomore from Merrill; and Dan Empson, a former graduate assistant from West Olive. Other crew members included Matt Park of Mount Pleasant, a May 2006 graduate who is originally from Brighton; Courtland Bartlett, a sophomore from Farmington; Mike Stark, a junior from Livonia; John Mullin, a senior from Almont; and Brian Sterling, a senior from Troy.

The CBI contest attracted nearly 500 entries in 21 categories from universities across the nation.
