Metro Detroit: Newsmakers Nov 9, 2006

Detroit News:

It's beginning to look a lot like Thanksgiving at best, but one Detroit radio station has gone all-Christmas anyway. WNIC-FM (100.3) has been flooding the airwaves with mistletoe, peppermint sticks and songs such as "O Holy Night" since Friday (we even heard Bob Seger's "Little Drummer Boy" on Sunday). You haven't lived until you've heard 'NIC jock Alan Almond's smoky, bedroom voice introduce Burl Ives' "It's a Holly Jolly Christmas"... Christmas arrives early on WNIC (Thu 11/9)

Detroit Free Press:

A jury has found a man guilty but mentally ill on an attempted murder charge for shooting a former WDIV-TV employee in the entryway to the NBC affiliate's downtown office. Epifanio Rivas Jr., 27, of Detroit also was found guilty Wednesday of using a firearm in a felony in the April 15, 2005, shooting of John Owens. The jury rejected Rivas' claim that he was insane at the time. Wayne County Circuit Judge James Callahan said he would sentence Rivas Nov. 21... Man convicted in shooting at WDIV (Thu 11/9)

Vince Cannova Upped To PD At 89X:
Longtime CHUM LTD. Alternative CIMX (89X)/DETROIT APD/afternooner VINCE CANNOVA has been upped to PD to replace MURRAY BROOKSHAW, who exited to become OM of NEWCAP/CALGARY. (Thu 11/9)
