Orth joins MRN staff

A former Traverse City mayor with over three decades of Michigan broadcasting experience has joined Michigan Radio Network. Phill Orth joined the Lansing-based news network August 9 as its marketing consultant.

Orth has been involved in broadcast radio since 1970, including stints in Traverse City, Midland, St. Ignace, Chicago, Detroit, and even Mexico. He most recently served as general manager of seven Northern Michigan radio stations.

The Traverse City native has also been active in politics over the years, serving as mayor of his hometown for one term each in the 1980s, 1990s and most recently from 2001 to 2003. He also served as a city commissioner there for 15 years and ran for the Michigan State House of Representatives twice.

"For a number of years now, I've been familiar with MRN and have dealt with them from the other side," Orth said. "I've always thought they provided a unique and high-quality product that is well-respected in this state. I'm honored and thrilled to be working for and representing them."

MRN General Manager Dennis Mellott also looks forward to integrating Orth into the network's daily operations. "With his background and experience, I think Phill will make a great addition to the organization," he said.

Michigan Radio Network, owned by Detroit-based Saga Communications, provides news and sports information to more than 50 stations throughout Michigan.
