Grand Rapids based Simonson Marketing & Entertainment has announced the acquisition of the rights to publish and syndicate American Country and New Christian Music Spotlight on a market exclusive basis to radio stations from On Target Media. SME was formed earlier this year by Bob Simonson of Grand Rapids, Michigan, a veteran broadcaster and entertainment business owner. In addition to personal ventures, Simonson is also affiliated with Audience Development Group of Grand Rapids and Regent Communications heritage AC WLHT-FM 95.7 Radio.

The syndications are designed to assist stations in generating additional Non-Traditional revenue by using a custom station newsprint magazine targeted to a station's life group and including advertising the station sells locally. A complete turnkey product, the magazines allow stations to increase their sales without sacrificing on air inventory.

Simonson, who was employed with On Target Media in 2003 to 2005 as a sales representative for the syndications was approached by Bruce Law, President of On Target Media earlier last month. “Bob's experience with On Target Media proves that he has the background to grow the syndication business. With his product knowledge and broadcast experience, it made him a perfect fit to take over the business.”

The syndications began in the mid-90's with American Country and later New Christian Music Spotlight was added, along with an oldies and MOR magazine. With station consolidation and changes in the later two formats, both of those syndications were dropped last year.

“I'm excited about this venture. Bruce Law has afforded me an opportunity to provide small and medium market stations that are struggling with revenue projections, a product that will not only increase their bottom line, but grow listenership and brand awareness as well. It's a multipurpose tool that very few products out there in this price range can do” Simonson stated.

Simonson will maintain his ownership of a local entertainment company as well as support services for Audience Development Group and on air for WLHT.

DeVos and Mulhern to Host Big Show Heard Across the State

The spouses of Michigan gubernatorial candidates Dick DeVos and Governor Jennifer Granholm will each take a turn guest-hosting the Michigan Talk Network's “Big Show” only days before the election. First Gentleman Dan Mulhern and Betsy DeVos will guest host the statewide news-talk program, which airs from 6-10 a.m. weekdays on 11 radio stations, in place of regular host Michael Patrick Shiels, who will be out of the country. The Big Show originates at WJIM AM 1240 in Lansing.

“We're pleased both camps have accepted our invitation,” said Michigan Talk Network General Manager Tim Hygh. “Our goal is to give Michigan voters a different look into the lives of our Gubernatorial candidates.”

First Gentleman Dan Mulhern, husband of democrat Governor Jennifer Granholm, will take his turn at the microphone on Thursday, Nov. 2. Betsy DeVos, wife of republican candidate Dick DeVos, will host the program on Friday, Nov. 3. Both Mulhern and DeVos have promised to arrange very special guests to interview during the show including, of course, their respective spouses and national political figures supporting the candidates.

Mulhern and DeVos will also take listener calls and discuss what it is like to be married to a gubernatorial candidate. As Michigan's first “First Gentleman,” Mulhern is champion for the cause of state volunteerism and community service, chairing the Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC), and is also an author and leadership coach.
Betsy DeVos served as chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party and serves various boards and charitable organizations.

The Michigan Talk Network's Morning Show features interviews with newsmakers, public officials, professional and college athletes and coaches, entertainers and experts of every variety. News anchor Gary Austin and sportscaster Tim Nester, along with Channel WILX-TV 10 meteorologist Darrin Rockcole add their own unique spins and provide the service elements listeners have come to depend on. The Big Show airs from 6-10 a.m. and is heard across the state, including radio stations in Lansing, Kalamazoo, Mount Pleasant, Petoskey, Marquette, Muskegon, Greenville, Hastings, and Ishpeming.
