Radio Format Changes: January 2006 Archives
* WJSZ-FM 92.5 Ashley/Owosso has to a Hot Adult Contemporary format as "An Upbeat Variety Of The 80's, 90's & Now". Posters on the Michigan Radio & TV Buzzboard report that the station has continued to identify itself as "Z 92.5" and "The Castle" - names it was using under its previous catch-all pop music format.
* Northern Star Broadcasting has signed on recent acquisition WMKD-FM 105.5 Pickford/Sault Ste Marie with a country format as 'Big Country' from it's new, more powerful, facilities on the same transmitter tower as sister station WYSS-FM 99.5. Prior to becoming country, the station spent a brief time simulcasting Northern Star's Modern Rock format heard on WLJZ-FM 94.5 Mackinaw City and WJZJ-FM 95.5 Leland/Traverse City. Northern Star owns and operates other Big Country stations on WMKC-FM 102.9 St. Ignace/Petoskey, WAVC-FM 93.9 Mio, and WJPD-FM 92.3 Marquette.
WMKD previously identified as WADW and had an Oldies format prior to being purchased by Catholic broadcasters Starboard Media. The station was primarily silent under Starboard and was sold in July 2005 to Northern Star which has upgraded the stations signal from 55,000 watts @ 108 feet to 100,000 watts @ 253 feet.
