* The FCC has granted John R. Powley a construction permit for a new LPTV station to be licenced to Escanaba on Channel 5. W05CR would transmit with 100 watts. Powley also has construction permits for 3 other LPTV's in the Upper Peninsula.

 

* Religious WOAP AM 1080 Owosso has filed a noitification with the FCC that the station has gone silent. The station left the air on April 14th and station owner 1090 Investments (Michigan Catholic Radio) has not specified a date if or when the station will resume operations. Broadcast stations are allowed one full year of being silent before they must surrender their license.


* Midwestern Broadcasting has been granted FCC approval for its acquisition of Public/Talk WVXA FM 96.7 Rogers City from Cincinnati Classical Public Radio. The station's call sign will change to WRGZ once the deal has completely closed. Michiguide.com does not have any knowledge of the future progamming direction of WRGZ.

At the same time, the FM translator of WVXA at 95.3 in
Mackinaw City was granted approval to be transferred to Midwestern who in turn donated it to the Interlochen Center for the Arts. The transfer from Midwestern to Interlochen was also granted. Interlochen states on the application that it plans to air the Classical programming of WIAB FM 88.5 Mackinaw City on the translator.


* Synergy Media has been granted FCC approval for its acquisition of Public/Talk WVXM FM 97.7 Manistee from Cincinnati Classical Public Radio. The station's call sign will change to WMLQ once the deal has completely closed. Michiguide.com does not have any knowledge of the future progamming direction of WMLQ. Ironically, the WMLQ call sign was once used in Michigan on WVXA FM 96.7 Rogers City -- another former X-Starnet station -- until 1998.


* The construction permit for FM 89.7 Lake Odessa has been sold for $25,000 by Great Lakes Community Broadcasting to Edgewater Broadcasting. Also included in the deal is the swap of two FM translator stations- W206AZ 89.1 Fremont will move from GLCB to Edgewater and the construction permit for W262AW 100.3 St. Johns will go from Edgewater to GLCB. Both organizations hold a number of FM translator licenses and/or construction permits in Michigan.

 

* Colrace Communications has been granted FCC approval for its acquisition of Public/Talk WVXH FM 92.1 Harrison from Cincinnati Classical Public Radio. The station's call sign will change to WTWS once the deal has completely closed. Michiguide.com does not have any knowledge of the future progamming direction of WTWS.
