Crain's Detroit Business:

When the general manager of WKRK 97.1 FM struck a deal to add Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings simulcasts, it wasn’t done to bolster the station’s ratings and revenue, both of which have declined. Instead, it was done to keep the teams on their flagship, WKRK’s CBS Radio-owned sister station, WXYT 1270 AM, an all-sports station. “That’s the only reason I came up with the approach that I did,” said Kevin Murphy, general manager and senior vice president for both stations... Double play gives boost to WKRK (Mon, 1/15)

Carolyn Clifford will become the co-anchor of WXYZ-Channel 7’s 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. news broadcasts beginning Jan. 29. Clifford currently co-anchors the ABC affiliate’s noon news broadcast, which she will continue to do with Robbie Timmons, station news director Andrea Parquet-Taylor said in a statement Monday. Timmons is also co-host of the 5 p.m. Action News... Carolyn Clifford to co-anchor 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. news on Channel 7 (Mon, 1/15)

Detroit Free Press:

Frank Turner’s replacement at WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) News was named Monday.
It’ll be Carolyn Clifford, who had been co-anchoring the station’s pre-“Good Morning America” newscast, the noon newscast and served as the station’s chief health reporter. Starting Jan. 29, she and Robbie Timmons —Turner’s old co-anchor—will preside over the noon and 5 p.m. newscast with Clifford also anchoring at 7 p.m. The 5 p.m. newscast is generally the station’s most watched news, in part due to the lead in of “Oprah” from 4-5 p.m... Clifford gets promotion at Channel 7 (Mon, 1/15)

Monroe News:

Bob Kelly seems to be funny without even trying. Jokes, one-liners and witty retorts pour out in machine-gun fashion during an hour-long interview conducted after his morning radio show on oldies WRQN-FM. But it wasn't always that way for the Toledo radio legend and longtime Monroe County resident who recently was inducted into the Radio Television Broadcaster's Hall of Fame of Ohio... Local radio legend honored in Hall of Fame (Mon, 1/15)
