The answer: Randy Thomas. And she's setting another first -- she'll announce the Pepsi Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show Feb. 4 on CBS (WWJ-TV, Channel 62) from Dolphin Stadium in Miami. One of the most widely known Detroiters was a fictional hero most often associated with Texas. The Lone Ranger was invented in Detroit and made his radio debut Jan. 30, 1933, on station WXYZ. Although the man in the white hat and the black mask was billed as a guy who saved good people from bad, he was really intended to save the radio station from a lousy economy, wracked as it was by the Great Depression. Station owner George W. Trendle wanted to come up with a character who was a Wild West cross between Zorro and Robin Hood... Lone Ranger makes his radio debut (Sun, 1/28)

Michael Coleman, former deputy director of Michigan Public Media, which oversees the University of Michigan's public radio and television operations, has taken a job as development director for Affirmations, a nonprofit community center for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people located in Ferndale. Coleman moved from WUOM to Detroit public radio station WDET in mid-2005... Public radio's Coleman accepts Ferndale job (Sun, 1/28)
