Does the rest of America care about the bad news from the domestic auto industry? Charles Gibson thinks so. He's set to anchor ABC's "World News" broadcast from metro Detroit tonight and Tuesday. He's also moderating a town hall meeting on the state of the auto industry that airs live at 8 tonight on WXYZ-TV (Channel 7)... Gibson to focus on autos (Mon, 1/29)


Mark your calendars. The Salvation Army of Eastern Michigan, WOMC-FM (104.3) veteran Detroit radio voice Dick Purtan and his Purtan's People cast will hold the 20th annual Dick Purtan Radiothon Feb. 23 to raise money for the Detroit area's homeless and hungry people. The live broadcast starts at 6 a.m. from the center court at Oakland Mall and will end at 10 p.m.; the donation number is 248-307-1043. Expect live performances by local and national performers and interviews with celebrities and sports figures... Purtan's Radiothon to be Feb. 23 (Mon, 1/29)

Detroit News:

Second place just won't do for anchorman Charles Gibson. To tighten the gap between his "World News with Charles Gibson" on ABC and the No. 1 rated "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams," Gibson has been hitting the road. He arrives in Metro Detroit this morning, where he'll butter up the bigs at WXYZ-TV (Channel 7), the local ABC affiliate. Gibson, 63, also will spend today and Tuesday broadcasting his newscast from here and hosting a town hall on the auto industry tonight... Gibson visits Channel 7 (Mon, 1/29)
