Michigan Radio and Michigan Television, the public broadcasting services from the University of Michigan, will air live coverage of Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s State of the State Address to the Michigan Legislature on Tuesday, February 6 at 7 pm.
Michigan Radio will produce and broadcast this live event, with host Charity Nebbe. Michigan Radio’s Jack Lessenberry will provide political analysis and commentary. This is the governor’s first address of her second term. She is expected to address the state’s plans to combat a looming budget deficit that will leave Michigan with an estimated $1 billion shortfall this year and next. Economist Charles Ballard will provide analysis of the state’s budget issues.
Michigan Television will air a special 90-minute edition of “Off the Record”, beginning at 7 pm. It will feature live coverage of the governor’s address, as well as the Republican response. This will be followed by analysis and commentary from a team of journalists headed by Tim Skubik, host of “Off the Record.”
Additionally, Michigan Radio will air “An Hour with Jennifer Granholm,” a statewide call-in show with Gov. Granholm on Friday, February 16 at 9 am. Listeners from across the state will be able to call in and ask questions of the governor on a variety of topics. This program will be hosted by Michigan Public Radio Network’s Rick Pluta.
