Bill Simonson still recalls the suspicious looks and disparaging responses he got from a couple of local radio executives upon his return to Grand Rapids in search of a fresh start to his career more than five years ago. He was told he'd never be accepted here. His opinionated brand of cutting-edge sports talk, which helped propel him to a stint with ESPN-AM (1000) in Chicago, would be much too ribald and much too controversial for a homespun region like West Michigan... A free public lecture by popular National Public Radio personality Diane Rehm, which had been set for March 13 at Western Michigan University, has been rescheduled to April 2. A bout of pneumonia forced the 70-year-old talk show host to postpone public speaking engagements for a few weeks... NPR host's talk moved to April 2 (Thu, 3/8)
