Metro Detroit: Newsmakers April 2, 2007

Detroit Free Press:

Baseball is fun again, the way it's supposed to be. Just ask Dan Dickerson. Entering his eighth season in the Tigers' radio booth and fifth as the lead play-by-play announcer on WXYT-AM (1270), he uses the word a lot these days. Maybe it's because it didn't come up a lot of nights during his first six years in the booth, when the Tigers were averaging nearly 100 losses. Not that he's complaining, after last season. "I've always loved this job, but then you realize how much more fun it can be," Dickerson said. "I hadn't ever even experienced a winning season. It was just a blast. With a winning team, there's just more stuff to talk about, more good stuff"... Tigers' long-awaited fun reaches broadcast booth (Mon, 4/2)

Anchor Devin Scillian, photojournalist Tim Pamplin and editor Vanessa Ogletree won the 2007 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best News Documentary for their work on the special "The China Syndrome: Where Did All the Jobs Go?" The Murrow Award is one of the highest honors for television news... WDIV wins documentary award (Mon, 4/2)
