MAB Annual Meeting highlights digital transition




Lifetime Achievement Winner & Hall of Fame Inductees Honored

With the digital conversion beginning to come to the forefront in consumers’ minds, Michigan broadcasters will spend much of the time at their upcoming annual meeting focusing on ways to ensure a smooth transition to the exciting new digital era. The digital transition is a critical issue for television and radio broadcasters, as well as consumers. MAB members attending the annual meeting will hear from industry leaders who will offer insight into making the transition smooth for broadcasters and their audiences. Among the presentations:

Preparing for the Digital Conversion – David Donovan of the Association for Maximum Service Television will provide an update on the status of the digital transition. He will discuss the importance of keeping the over-the-air audience during the transition from analog to digital. The presentation will focus on the need for cooperation.

The Next Generation of HD Radio – Kitsa Lee of iBiquity will discuss how radio stations need to stay ahead of the learning curve by understanding what is next in HD radio technology.

Technically Speaking with NAB’s David Layer - The Director of Advanced Engineering for the National Association of Broadcasters will offer insight into what the national organization is doing to prepare stations for the next generation of broadcast media.

Among other highlights of the MAB Annual Meeting & Leadership Retreat will be the Chairman’s banquet on Tuesday night at which the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award and Michigan Broadcasting Hall of Fame inductees will be honored. Those being recognized are:

2007 Lifetime Achievement Award:
Ross Biederman, President and General Manager of Midwestern Broadcasting Company.

Michigan Broadcasting Hall of Fame:

* Thomas Bender, Regional General Manager and Senior Vice President for Greater Media Detroit

* P. Thomas Bryson, President and General Manager of WJRT-TV in Flint.

* Gary A. Reid, University Distinguished Senior Specialist in the Department of Telecommunications, Information Studies and Media at Michigan State University.

* Stephen Trivers, former President and General Manager of Fairfield Broadcasting Company in Kalamazoo.
