WDIV-TV 4 will provide television and Internet viewers with three specials to help celebrate the first annual Detroit International River Days. A half-hour primetime special, Rockin’ on the River, airs Friday, June 22, at 8 p.m followed on Saturday, June 23 with live Internet video from the DTE Energy Parade Of Lights and wraps up on Local 4 with exclusive live coverage of the grand finale, the Target Fireworks on Wednesday, June 27, starting at 9 p.m.

Rockin’ on the River, airing Friday at 8 p.m. and hosted by Carmen Harlan, Devin Scillian, and Chuck Gaidica, takes your family into the middle of the action live from the all new Detroit River Walk. The special will showcase many of the exciting River Days events, from helicopter rides and jet ski demonstrations, to air dogs, carnival rides, music and more.

Rockin’ on the River will also include a behind the scenes preview of what to expect at the first ever DTE Energy Parade Of Lights presented by Local 4, and an opportunity to meet the five Super Singers who will compete live during Local 4’s broadcast of the Target Fireworks.

Saturday night starting 10 p.m., Local 4 will feature live updates from the DTE Energy Parade Of Lights within NBC programming, and exclusive live streaming video of the big event online at ClickOnDetroit.com.

Then, on Wednesday, June 27, starting at 9 p.m., WDIV will provide exclusive coverage of the summer’s biggest event and the River Days grand finale. Local 4’s live telecast of the Target Fireworks hosted by Carmen Harlan, Devin Scillian, and Chuck Gaidica begins with a Super Singer competition like no other before, with the winner selected by at-home viewers’ text message votes.

This year’s Super Singer on-stage judges are Local 4’s morning anchor Ama Daetz, Ty Treadway, soap star and host of “Merv Griffin’s Crosswords,” and Yvan Pedneault, star of the Toronto production of “We Will Rock You.”

Detroit News:

The talk radio industry has provided Americans with a town hall-like forum that has disappeared from the political landscape. That open discussion is now being threatened by those who seek government control of speech. Democrats in Washington have suggested they may seek a new "fairness doctrine" that would require radio talk show hosts to zip their own lips and keep track of time spent speaking on different sides of issues. Even a leading Republican, U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, suggests conservative talk radio hosts need to be dealt with after Americans recently railed against the ill-conceived immigration bill... Government shouldn't play favorites on talk radio shows (Fri, 6/22)
