Evelynn Hawkins is the new host of the weekday evening jazz program on WEMU, 89.1 FM. She started work earlier this month, succeeding Michael G. Nastos, who retired last July after 27 years at WEMU. Hawkins has been in radio since 1984 as an announcer and producer, and has programmed classical as well as jazz. She came here from WDUQ-FM in Pittsburgh, and she has co-hosted the national broadcast of the Detroit International Jazz Festival. Fans of National Public Radio personality Ira Glass should mark this date down immediately. The host of the public radio (and now, Showtime television) program "This American Life'' will celebrate the show, and the DVD release of the first season of the television version, with an appearance Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at the downtown Ann Arbor Borders Books and Music store...
