For five hours on Friday, XM Satellite Radio's "60s on 6" channel will become Detroit's much-loved WKNR Keener 13. Every week XM's "Sonic Sound Salute" puts the spotlight on a different '60s radio station, and this week from 4-9 p.m. host Terry "Motor Mouth" Young will play airchecks, commercials and other content from WKNR (1310 on the AM dial). WKNR first signed on the air on Halloween night, 1963, and the personable, bubbly station was the firm favorite of most teenagers until about 1968-'70, when CKLW started coming on strong with a more powerful signal. Was WKNR as great as so many remember it? "Sonic Sound Salute" host Young didn't grow up here (although he was on the air on WDFX "The Fox" at 99.5 briefly in the late '80s), but after culling through reams of pristine airchecks sent to him by former WKNR program director and on-air personality Bob Green , he insists that WKNR was one of the best... Radio storyteller Garrison Keillor brings his popular radio variety show "A Prairie Home Companion'' to Hill Auditorium for a live performance June 14 at 5:45 p.m. This engagement is part the Ann Arbor Summer Festival's 25th season celebration, June 13-July 6, and is co-presented with Michigan Radio. Tickets go on sale Monday, April 21 at 9 a.m. through the festival ticket office, 734-764-2538, and online at Tickets are $65-$25. Keillor and his guests - to be announced at a future date - bring to life the comedy sketches, music, stories, and imaginary product sponsors fans have loved for the last 34 years...
