Hugh Semple suffered stings and slights as the Flint area's first black TV broadcaster. But Semple had the last word. While his detractors are long forgotten, Semple, who died in 2004 at age 83, is remembered as a pioneer of broadcast journalism. "Hugh was not only a role model for the rest of his race, but he set a high standard of integrity for everyone in the business," said Roberta Wray, a retired lawyer who worked with Semple at WNEM (Channel 5) in the 1960s...
