Radio XThe stunting ended just past 10:00 a.m. on WMAX-FM 96.1 Holland/Grand Rapids with the launch of Alternative Rock 'Radio X 96.1'. The Clear Channel-owned station launched with a brief announcement followed by Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit", the Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah", and "Just a Girl" by No Doubt.

It appears the station is running jockless for now, but featured its first commercial break just 20 minutes into its new sound.

A splash web site page at www.radiox961.com shows core artists for the new station being The Dave Matthews Band, Green Day, The Ramones, U2, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, Sublime, the Beastie Boys, Incubus, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam. The station is streaming live via the Internet and is inviting listener feedback via the web site.

Prior to this morning's new format launch, the station carried a broad hot adult contemporary format as 'Max FM' until it began stunting on Thursday afternoon, January 31st.

cLEAR cHANNNEL BIG WIGS NEED TO GET A CLUE, IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT. WHAT ABOUT WHAT THE LISTENERS WANT????? YOU COULD HAVE ASKED US. I FOUND YOUR LITTLE TIME BOMB STUNT TO BE VERY CHILDISH AND EXTREMELY ANNOYING. HOPEFULLY WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE I'LL BE ABLE TO FIND ANOTHER STATION COMPARABLE TO WHAT 96.1MAXFM HAD BEFORE!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK I THINK YOU BLEW IT. A FORMER LISTENER.

Finally a radio station in Grand Rapids that doesn't suck.....Rock is good pop crap is bad!!!!

Thanks for another big mistake. I will be looking for another station now. The "X" must stand for what the other stations chose to do with your song list.I tried to listen to 96.1 and just can't sit still long enough for a decent song to come on. My son did recognize the type of music but said it wasn't what he would listen to from those groups. Good luck creating an audience. Another former listener.

The new music is awesome! I glad that there is finally a radio station that plays the alternative rock music from the 90's that we all love.

-A New Listener

I really liked the music on MAX FM. Although there isn't a significant change, I did slightly prefer the old station. One HUGE difference is the signal strength. For that reason alone, it was well worth the change.

Good luck!

WOW! Finally, contemporary music for our metropolitan city! If you don't like it, move to Sparta! Grand Rapids is a hip town and I was tired of listening to my parents music. This is what 97.9 WGRD set out to do years ago but somehow they took a left turn into the world of boring dicussions for testosterone filled men with nothing else to ponder.

I think the change is awesome, finally a station that doesn't play the same crap over and over. A station that actually plays older and newer music and isn't affraid to play something new that hasn't been played before.
Thanks for the Snow Patrol!

Finally, a station that doesn't make me want to jump off a bridge!!! I love the music. I am a 46yr. old woman, recently divorced, and I am not ready to resign myself to listening to country music and crying into my Long Island Ice Tea!!!! Thanks for getting me through the day.

I think you rock. I'm a meter reader so I spend all day listening to the radio! I love hearing music instead of the mindless wonderings of the morning shows!!!!

This radio station keeps getting better every time I listen. I love the variety of the artist and the songs.

I was so excited when I discovered the new format. I absolutely love it. 96.1 used to be my preset #4, now I think it will bump GRD's coveted spot. I love the tag line and hope you stick to it. I listen to the radio for music not talk shows. Now if only MTV will get a clue and play Music Videos and not a bunch of reality TV that sucks! Good Luck!

This new station rocks! Finally, a station that plays good alternative music, the old and the new! Keep playing the good music! We don't want talk radio, we want good tunes. Thanks!
