Grand Rapids Press:

He spends his day running around atop the roof of a local McDonald's. Jerry Tarrants shouts through a bullhorn to the people on the ground. He wants pennies -- he wants a million of them. "Gimme all your pennies!" he shouts to sidewalk dwellers and people driving their cars. "Just toss 'em up here!" Maybe you've seen him before. Every May, for two straight days, WGRD-FM (97.9) program director Jerry "JT" Tarrants camps out at McDonald's, 3814 Plainfield Ave. NE, to raise money for Grand Rapids Ronald McDonald House. His annual goal is 1 million pennies or $10,000, a number that has been surpassed by at least $2,000 during the two previous years. This year, Tarrants will be on the roof Thursday and Friday.
