Marla Drutz Named V.P., General Manager of WDIV
Marla Drutz has been named Vice President and General Manager of WDIV. The announcement was made by Alan Frank, President/CEO of WDIV's parent company, Post-Newsweek Stations, Inc.
Drutz comes to Local 4 from WXYZ where she was Director of Programming and Special Projects for the E.W. Scripps Company. She was responsible for programming purchases, productions and scheduling of five Scripps Television stations across the country, including WXYZ.
"Marla Drutz is an outstanding broadcaster," said Frank. "She has earned a great reputation in the community and I believe she will be a powerful leader for WDIV for years to come."
"I'm delighted and excited to be joining WDIV," said Drutz. "Having lived and worked in Detroit for nearly 25 years, I know firsthand the important role local television plays in our community. I have tremendous respect and admiration for the work and the unique local content that's been done at WDIV, and I am deeply honored to be joining the station."
Drutz joined the E.W. Scripps Company in January 1989, as Research Director of WXYZ-TV. She was named Program Director in 1994. Drutz previously worked at WJBK-TV in Detroit as Director of Marketing and at WJW-TV in Cleveland, Ohio as a Sales Account Executive. Her broadcasting career began in 1982 as a Research Analyst at WJW.
Drutz has received numerous professional awards including Emmy Awards, first-place awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and a "Top Woman in Management" Award from the Detroit Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television. She was selected as one of Detroit's "Top 40 Under 40" by Crain's Detroit Business. Drutz was also selected by Corp! Magazine as one of Michigan's Top Businesswomen.
A graduate of Leadership Detroit XIII, Drutz is a member of the National Association of Television Program Executives (NAPTE) and The Adcraft Club of Detroit. She serves on the executive board of the Michigan Chapter of the International Women's Forum and is a board member of Leader Dogs For The Blind and Oakland Family Services.
Drutz holds a bachelor's degree from Ohio University in journalism and communication. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Drutz lives in Bloomfield Hills with her husband, Ron and their son, David.
