Grand Rapids Press:
In light of the struggling economy, B-93 program director Doug Montgomery knew he had to tweak the radio station's annual charity event, Roofsit for Kids. "We wanted to do something special this year, and having Taylor Swift come and do a Roofsit concert -- the response has been beyond our wildest dreams," he said. Swift will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Van Andel Arena. The WBCT-FM (93.7) annual roof-sitting event has raised more than $7 million since 1993 to help fund about 16 West Michigan programs involved in treating and preventing child abuse and neglect, Montgomery said. The on-air portion of this year's event will kick off at 6 a.m. Tuesday (call 800-B93-KIDS). The station's on-air personalities also will collect contributions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tractor Supply Company in Cedar Springs, Art Van Furniture locations in Holland and Kalamazoo, and Wal-Mart in Ionia. "This is a grassroots fundraiser by our listeners, and the money all goes back to the community," Montgomery said, adding contributions already are being accepted online at b93.com... Radio X listeners might recognize the voice booming from their speakers during the afternoon-drive shift -- it's none other than local radio institution Aris Hampers. After being fired two years ago from Clear Channel's WBFX-FM (101.3), Hampers has made his way back onto the air, this time at WMAX-FM (96.1), which also is owned by Clear Channel. "I pretty much thought I was done," said Hampers, who was approached about the gig by program director Eric O'Brien. "I really hadn't thought of doing it again"...
