Broadcasting & Cable:

A retransmission consent contract between Young Broadcasting and satellite provider Dish Network has expired, knocking 10 Young stations off the air for Dish subscribers. The Young stations include KRON San Francisco, (WLNS Lansing), WTEN Albany and WRIC Richmond. WRIC put it this way: "Unfortunately DISH has chosen to drop WRIC-TV8. We tried to for several months to reach a fair agreement that does not discriminate against this station. We will continue to seek a fair and reasonable agreement with DISH... From WLNS: WLNS's effort to reach a new agreement with DISH was unsuccessful. DISH has dropped WLNS-TV6 effective December 11, 2009 at 7pm. You can continue to receive WLNS-TV6 free over the air from the station, on satellite with DIRECTV, your local cable or telephone provider. We regret the inconvenience that DISH may cause you. DISH's contract with WLNS TV 6 was originally set to expire on December 10, 2008. WLNS TV offered a short extension of the contract to allow more time to reach an agreement with DISH. For the past several months our company has attempted to reach a new agreement with DISH. Unfortunately DISH has elected not to accept our proposal... Dish Network Drops WLNS TV6
