Lansing State Journal:

While this isn't exactly the time of year to be playing golf in Michigan, reading about it can still be quite entertaining. "Secrets of the Great Golf Course Architects" by Michael Patrick Shiels and the American Society of Golf Course Architects (Skyhorse Publishing, $40) is a deluxe, coffee--table book that's ideal for serious golf lovers. Although it basically offers viewpoints of 118 different members of the society, it showcases quite a variety of insights; it's officially subtitled "The Creation of the World's Greatest Golf Courses in the Words and Images of History's Master Designers." Providing behind-the- scenes tales from America's best golf course designers, Shiels presents a unique collection that fills a real niche. It includes brief comments and interviews with many well-known individuals, including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Robert Trent Jones Jr... Local radio DJ takes us on golf-course tour in 'Secrets' (Sun, 12/14)
