Once again the sounds of the holidays will ring through The Whiting and be broadcast live on WJRT (Channel 12) as the 24th annual Holiday Pops comes to life. The music of the Flint Symphony Orchestra led by maestro Enrique Diemecke will combine with the voices of the Flint Festival Chorus and the Flint Festival Youth Chorus with directors Bradley Bloom and Sylvia Pittman ... The first hour of the concert will air live on WJRT (Channel 12) and digital channels 246 (Comcast) and 430 (Charter). Channel 12 anchors Bill Harris and Angie Hendershot will host the program, including a second hour which is not shown on television. The program, which is co-sponsored by The Flint Journal, will repeat on the ABC affiliate channels at noon on Christmas day. Michigan PBS stations also will repeat the broadcast: Flint's WFUM at 9 p.m. Christmas eve. On Dec. 25, WKAR/Lansing and WGVU/Grand Rapids will show the program at noon, WTVS/Detroit at 4 p.m. and WCMU/Mount Pleasant at 8 p.m... Did your television pass the test? Saginaw, Bay City and Flint network TV station affiliates voluntarily and temporarily shut down analog service at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday to simulate the Feb. 17 changeover to all digital television. It was only a test. "We've got individuals out there with the conventional televisions ... who may or may have not realized the changeover is coming," said Jon Bengston, 57, operations and technical manager for Channel 25, WEYI in Clio. "We want to make sure they are prompted far enough in advance to be able to take advantage of the federally supported coupon process to get decoder boxes." Some residents must purchase digital television converter boxes before Feb. 17, unless they prefer looking at snowy screens reminiscent of the 1982 "Poltergeist" movie...
