Sales and Transactions: March 2008 Archives

• Baraga Broadcasting agreed to acquire FM translator W221CA 92.1 Gaylord from Radio Assist Ministry for $6,800 pending FCC approval and closing. Baraga, owner of Religious WTCK FM 90.9 Charlevoix, plans to rebroadcast that station on the translator.

WOOD-FM 105.7 Grand Rapids was granted its license to cover for its move to its new facilities. The station resumed broadcasting at 265,000 watts late last year after a long period of operating at reduced power.

WCXT FM 98.3 was granted its license to cover for a change community of license from South Haven to Hartford, a move of its tower southwest, and an increase of effective radiated power from 1,900 watts @ 404 feet to 3,700 watts @ 427 feet.

• The owner of WMXG FM 106.3 Stephenson agreed to make a voluntary contribution of $5,000 to the US Treasury and the FCC dismissed a proposed $10,000 fine for alleged tower lighting violations. Read the FCC Consent Decree.

• MacDonald Broadcasting agreed to acquire FM translator W221BQ 92.1 Petoskey from Great Lakes Community Broadcasting for $1,500 pending FCC approval and closing. An application has been filed for special temporary authority to rebroadcast MacDonald's WMKT AM 1270 Charlevoix on the translator due to interference WMKT receives from WXYT AM 1270 Detroit. If the STA is not granted, MacDonald Garber will likely not complete the purchase. A copy of the special temporary authority application can be found here.

• The license for WMHG AM 1600 Muskegon was officially surrendered and the station essentially no longer exists.

• The FCC is seeking comments on a proposal filed by Roy E. Henderson that would modify the FM table of allotments for Evart, Ludington, Pentwater, and Manistee. The proposal would result in the creation of a new Class A allocation for Evart, but require the movement of WMOM FM 102.7 and WMLQ FM 97.7 to new frequencies. Henderson proposes the creation of the new Evart allocation at 102.7, which would require WMOM to move from its current frequency to 96.3. Further, a vacant allocation at 96.3 in Ludington would move to 97.7 and WMLQ Manistee would move to FM 104.3.

In summary-
WMOM: 102.7 ---> 96.3
WMLQ: 97.7 ---> 104.3
Vacant Ludington: 96.3 ---> 97.7
New Evart: 102.7
