Sales and Transactions: June 2008 Archives

• The FCC approved Tim Woodson Ministries acquisition of the construction permit for WXPZ FM 90.1 Clyde Twp (Allegan county) from Larlen Communications for $50,000.

• A License was granted to the following new FM translator: W237CZ 95.3 Hudsonville (Horizon Christian Fellowship)

• The sale of WCVM FM 94.7 Bronson to Taylor University from CSN International closed. WCVM now carries contemporary Christian programmming from Taylor's WBCL FM Ft. Wayne, IN.

 

• Swick Broadcasting is acquiring the 5 stations owned by Lake Cities Broadcasting for $3.8 million pending FCC approval and closing. The two Michigan stations involved are Oldies WMSH FM 99.3 and Sports WMSH AM 1230 Sturgis along with Country WTHD FM 105.5 LaGrange, IN, Pop WLKI FM 100.3 Angola, IN, and Country WLZZ FM 104.5 Montpelier, OH.

WBUP TV 10 Ishpeming/Marquette received a construction permit for its digital facilities. The ABC affiliate will continue to broadcast on Channel 10 once the transition to digital television broadcasting occurs in February, 2009. According the contour plots on the FCC web site for this construction permit, the station's coverage area will not be increasing.

• The FCC approved the voluntary transfer of license for Classic Country WBMI FM 105.5 West Branch to Peggy R. Warner from Independent Television Productions of Michigan. The transaction closed about a week later.

WMUP FM 99.9 Carney (Starboard Media Foundation) was granted its license. Programming on this station has not been confirmed by Michiguide.com to date.

• Sovereign City Radio Services is acquiring the construction permits for AM 1490 Houghton and AM 1490 Ironwood pending FCC approval and closing from Advance Acquisition (Starboard Media) as part of a larger agreement between the two organizations.

 

• By Grace Through Faith received a construction permit for a new non-commerical FM station to be licensed to Wixom. WSHM FM 88.3 would operate with 100 watts @ 127 feet with a directional antenna located near I-96 and Old Plank Road in Oakland County if built according to this construction permit. The station would be Oakland County's third FM station on 88.3, joining Southfield Public School's WSHJ and Oakland University's WXOU on the frequency. Judging by the name of the construction permit holder, a good guess for a format for this station would be religious-based.

 

• Talk WILS AM 1320 Lansing was granted its license to cover granted for a power increase to 25,000/1,900 watts from 5,000/1,000 watts from its new transmitter location in Eaton County. The station first began testing its new faclities in January 2008 and currently boasts the most powerful AM signal in the Lansing market.

• The sale of country/full serivce WMLM AM 1520 St. Louis/Alma to Krol Communications from Siefker Broadcasting officially closed.

• New station WUPG FM 96.7 Republic (recently changed call sign from WUPZ) was granted its license to cover and also was granted remain silent authority.

• No transactions noted week ending May 9

 

• The FCC approved Michigan Radio Communications, LLC acquistion of sports WLUN FM 100.9 Pinconning. The transaction also closed during May.

 

• A construction permit was granted to Holy Family Oratory of St. Philip Neri for a new non-commercial FM station at 89.7 to be licensed to Bedford (near Battle Creek). The permit specifies 750 watts @ 233 feet with a directional antenna located in southern Barry county.

• A construction permit was granted to Korkee, Inc. for a new non-commercial FM station at 90.3 to be licensed to Newberry. The permit specifies 70,000 watts @ 203 feet with an antenna located in southern Luce county.

• The transfer of the construction permit for FM translator W221CA FM 92.1 Gaylord from Radio Assist Ministry to Baraga Broadcasting was granted by the FCC. Baraga rebroadcasts the programming of its Catholic WTCK FM 90.9 Charlevoix on the translator.

• The construction permit for WOUF FM 92.3 Beulah was modified to specify a new tower location in Benzie county where the station's antenna will be co-located with WBNZ FM 99.3. The construction permit specifies 50,000 watts @ 446 feet with a directional antenna.

 

• The Interlochen Center for the Arts was granted two construction permits for new non-commercial FM stations in northern Michigan. The first, WLMN 89.7 to be licensed to Manistee, would operate with 15,000 watts @ 282 feet with a directional antenna located in northern Mason county and provide coverage for Ludington as well as Manistee. The second, WHBP 90.1 to be licensed to Harbor Springs, would operate with 1,200 watts @ 1004 feet with a directional antenna located in west-central Emmet county. Interlochen Public Radio current operates Classical WIAA-FM 88.7 Interlochen and News/Talk WICA-FM 91.5 Traverse City in addition to two rebroadcasters of WIAA; WICV-FM 100.9 East Jordan and WIAB-FM 88.5 Mackinaw City.

• Country WMKC FM 102.9 Indian River was granted a construction permit to change effective radiated power from 100,000 watts @ 1,102 feet (Class C0) to 77,000 watts @ 967 feet (Class C1). In addition, the station's broadcast location would change from west-central Emmet county to the south to Charlevoix county near the Otsego county line.

• CBS-owned and CW affiliate WKBD TV 50 Detroit was issued a notice of apparent liability in amount of $8,000 due to issues with the station's compliance with limits on commerical matter in children's programming and failure to place all required records concerning compliance with children's programming commercial limits in its public inspection file. • A construction permit was granted to West Central Michigan Media Ministries for new a non-commercial FM station at 91.9 to be licensed to Cadillac. It would operate with 2,100 watts @ 144 feet with a directional antenna located in Wexford county.

• The FCC granted the voluntary assignment of the construction permit for FM translator W221BQ 92.1 Petoskey to MacDonald Garber Broadcasting from Great Lakes Community Broadcasting. The assignment agreement identified WKHQ FM 105.9 Charlevoix as the primary station for the translator, however MacDonald Garber has applied for special temporary authority to rebroadcast the programming of news/talk WMKT AM 1270 Charlevoix on W221BQ.

 

• A construction permit was granted to Muskegon Community Radio Broadcast Company for new non-commercial FM station WHEY 88.9 to be licensed to North Muskegon. It would operate with 1000 watts @ 147 feet with a directional antenna located in Muskegon county.

• The FCC granted the voluntary assignment of licenses for Swick Broadcasting's acquisition of the radio stations owned by Lake Cities Broadcasting (WMSH-FM/AM Sturgis along with 3 other stations in NE Indiana and NW Ohio).

• The Ironwood translator of FOX TV affiliate KQDS Duluth, MN (W32CV) has been granted a construction permit to flash cut to digital operations. The station will remain on channel 32.

 

• Horizon Christian Fellowship is selling FM translator W295AK 106.9 Three Rivers to Impact Radio for $11,000 pending FCC approval and closing. Impact Radio owns WLKM-FM/AM 95.9/1520 in Three Rivers as well as a pair of stations in Bryan, OH.

• An FM translator of WRVM FM 102.7 Suring, WI at 98.5 in Powers, MI (W253AQ) has been granted a construction permit to move to FM 98.9 as W255CB.

 

• Silent WUPZ FM 94.9 has applied to move from Crystal Falls to near Marquette and become licensed to Chocolay Township. If approved, the station's effective radiated power would become 58,000 watts @ 456 feet from an antenna located southwest of Marquette.

• Announced that Great Lakes Commmunity Broadcasting is donating WAAQ FM 88.3 Onsted, WJKQ FM 88.5 Jackson, WJCQ FM 89.7 Jackson, WQLO FM 89.7 Lake Odessa, and W209BR 89.7 Columbia Township to Society for Accurate Information and Distribution Foundation for no financial consideration pending FCC approvals and closing.

• Spartan-TV, LLC was issued a Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture in the amount of $10,000 for violations at WHTV TV 18 Jackson concerning failing to place in the station's public inspection file all required TV issues/program lists. FCC Notice of Apparent Liability (pdf)
