Kalamazoo Gazette:
If you see a man resembling Kalamazoo Mayor Bobby Hopewell in the "American Idol" audience on April 7 in Los Angeles and you're wondering whether you saw right, there's nothing wrong with your vision. Hopewell is scheduled to be in the personal cheering section of Matt Giraud, the "Idol" finalist from Kalamazoo, the politician told the Kalamazoo Gazette today. Often, the Fox TV cameras pan to family members and friends of contestants. And if, this morning, you thought you heard Gov. Jennifer Granholm on WKZO-AM (590) urging "Idol" show watchers to keep voting for Giraud, there's nothing wrong with your hearing. Hopewell had asked Granholm earlier this month to join him in a campaign to ensure that yet another Michigan native is a top-finishing "Idol" finalist. The governor last threw her support around LaKisha Jones, of Flint, who made it to fourth place in Season Six in 2007. Hopewell's and Granholm's well wishes today came just hours before the nine remaining contestants, which include Giraud, were to perform live on "American Idol"... 'American Idol' finalist Matt Giraud gets radio plug from Michigan's governor, Kalamazoo's mayor to be in 'Idol' audience (Tue, 3/31)
