In Michigan, few voices are as distinguishable as Ernie Harwell's. At 91, Harwell still has the silky smooth baritone and way with words that made him famous. He announced Detroit Tigers games on the radio for 42 years, handing over the microphone to Dan Dickerson in 2002. But the man who is synonymous with the 1968 and 1984 World Series champion teams still is going strong. Harwell, a spokesman for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan, was scheduled to speak today at a special Holland Chamber of Commerce meeting about staying healthy and fit through simple exercises such as walking. Harwell took time off from a Tigers game this week to talk about coming to West Michigan, how the media has changed and the game he loves so much...
