• The bankruptcy receiver for WJNZ AM 1140 Kentwood/Grand Rapids has agreed to sell the station to Holy Family Radio for $310,000 pending FCC approval and closing. The former urban outlet is currently silent with the recent move of its programming to WYGR AM 1530 under the direction of Robert Womack. Holy Family currently purchases about 22 hours of air time each week on Grand Rapids area stations WPRR, WTKG, AND WMJH and will likely bring a full-time Catholic-based religious format to AM 1140.
• News-talk WMKT AM 1270 Charlevoix was granted a construction permit to increase daytime power from 15,000 to 50,000 watts. A similar construction permit for a power increase to 50,000 watts was canceled late last year just prior to its expiration.
• J&J Broadcasting's acquisition of pop WIMI-FM 99.7 and country WJMS AM 590 Ironwood from Magellan/Barracuda Broadcasting has closed. Sale price was $950,000.
