The fifth annual Hope and Care Radiothon conducted by NextMedia radio stations in Saginaw (WSGW-FM/AM, WCEN-FM, WGER-FM, WTLZ-FM) raised $46,995 yesterday. The twelve hour broadcast on the 5 radio stations provides a financial boost for the Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan which include City Rescue Mission in Saginaw and Good Samaritan in Bay City. It costs about $3,000 a day to operate those homeless shelters.

The goal was $30,000 but was easily surpassed when a family was moved by hearing about the work of the mission's during the radiothon and called in a $10,000 pledge from the estate of their mother who had recently passed.

Several local businesses also provided matching grants to help take the campaign over the top.

Dan Streeter, executive director of City Rescue Mission of Saginaw, expressed his gratitude. "The staff of NextMedia did an unbelievable job! We never imagined that raising $46,995 could have been possible. Thanks to everyone for making the time on air and the outstanding effort to share the message of "Hope and Care" so that yesterday's Radiothon could be a huge success."
