Broadcasting & Cable:

The Walt Disney Company has made an agreement to sell the two smallest O&Os in its 10-station ABC Owned Television Stations Group to the stations' former owner SJL Broadcasting. The stations -- WJRT in Flint, Mich., and WTVG in Toledo, Ohio, - are strong revenue generators in their markets and are expected to remain ABC affiliates. Pending FCC approval, the deal is expected to be completed in early 2011 ... "The proposed sale of these Flint and Toledo properties makes strategic sense for the future direction of the ABC Owned Television Stations Group," Campbell said in her statement. "As we sharpen our focus on larger markets with greater growth potential, we're gratified that these well-run, local stations will be in the able hands of SJL, which is geared toward smaller stations and has a strong history with these two in particular." Prior to ABC's acquisition of both stations in 1995, they were owned and managed by SJL Broadcast Management... Disney to Sell Two Stations (Wed, 11/3)

And the sleigh goes to....

It's Christmastime in the city, or at least on the radio at 100.3 in Detroit as WNIC made its annual flip to holiday music this morning at about 9:30. As of just after 10 a.m., the format is theirs alone as format competitor WMGC-FM 105.1 has stuck with their regular contemporary format.

WNIC's Facebook page lit up immediately with listeners expressing their pleasure with the move.

In West Michigan, WOOD-FM 105.7 also made the move to Christmas this morning, giving Grand Rapids two full-time holiday outlets as cross-town WTRV-FM 100.5 switched earlier in the month.

The Bay City area also has a full-time Christmas station; WSAG-FM 104.1 made its annual switchover earlier this week.

Flint Journal:

WJRT-TV (Channel 12), Flint's ABC affiliate television station, is being sold by its owner, Disney, to SJL Broadcasting of San Luis Obispo, Calif., pending federal approval. WJRT general manager Tom Bryson confirmed the deal. WJRT is being sold along with WTVG-TV in Toledo, ABC officials said. The stations are in the smallest markets among ABC's 10 corporate-owned stations. Other ABC owned and operated stations include ones in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. WJRT will remain an ABC affiliate, Bryson said. SJL Broadcasting owned both stations prior to 1995, when ABC acquired them. It's unclear how new ownership will impact programming or on-air talent.

"I don't have any idea at this point ... (that is) something the new owner would have to do," Bryson said.

Mike Lewis, director of the University of Michigan-Flint journalism program and a 20-year veteran of WDIV-TV (Channel 4) in Detroit, predicts little will change at first... WJRT-TV to be sold to previous owner pending FCC approval (Fri, 11/12)

ESPN1009.com gets a facelift

ESPN 100.9-FM (WLUN) Pinconning has launched a new and improved website today in an effort to provide its listeners more in-depth local sports content, while doubling to complement the station.

The new website, which has been completely redesigned by the station's online service provider, InterTech Media, will be an ever-changing news outlet, complete with sports photos and stories surrounding the teams of the Great Lakes Bay Region and other state-wide athletics.

From the Saginaw Valley League to the National Football League, ESPN1009.com will stretch across a wide range of teams, all the while staying true to the range of coverage highlighted on ESPN 100.9-FM.

The website will continue to provide a live streaming feed of 100.9-FM for exclusive listener access from the home or workplace computer. In the occasional chance of two conflicting sports broadcasts, ESPN1009.com will stream two live feeds to meet the needs of its listeners.

ESPN 100.9-FM, the flagship radio home of Great Lakes Loons Class A minor league baseball team, is a 24-hour all-sports station owned by the non-profit Michigan Radio Communications.

Santa checks in with updates

Christmas music continues to expand across Michigan, with at least three more stations flipping to all-holiday tunes this past week.

In Lansing WLMI FM 92.9 has switched off the smooth jazz, perhaps permanently. The station swapped its call sign to WLMI after ID'ing for a number of years as WJZL. On the Lake Michigan shoreline, soft rock WSHZ FM 107.9 is also jingling all the way. And in the Tri-Cities, classic hits WHNN FM 96.1 is playing 'all Christmas classics' again this year.

Look for Detroit soft rocker WMGC FM 105.1 to switch to the seasonal format on November 26th, the day after Thanksgiving.

Update: Oldies WNBY FM 93.9 Newberry / Sault Ste. Marie also has switched to all-Christmas as of this morning.
