• Silent FM translator W230BI 93.9 Lapeer was granted a construction permit to change its community of license to Metamora, move south within Lapeer county, and increase power from 10 to 250 watts. The application states the translator would rebroadcast WCRZ-FM 107.9 Flint -- it is currently silent.


• No notable activity for January 26-29.


WSYM TV 47 Lansing (DTV Ch. 38) was granted its license to cover for its permanent digital facilities. The station broadcasts with 933,000 watts @ 922 feet from near Eaton Rapids.


• Smile FM has been granted a construction permit for a new FM station on 89.5 to be licensed to Huron Township in Wayne County. The station would broadcast with 900 watts @ 269 feet with a directional antenna that wuold provide coverage to many of Detroit's Downriver suburbs. The application lists a broadcast location near Fort St. and King Rd.


WFUM-TV 28 Flint and WHTV-TV 18 Jackson/Lansing (DTV Ch. 34) were granted their licenses to cover for permanent digital facilities.


• No notable activity for February 3.


• The bankruptcy receiver for WJNZ AM 1140 Kentwood/Grand Rapids has agreed to sell the station to Holy Family Radio for $310,000 pending FCC approval and closing. The former urban outlet is currently silent with the recent move of its programming to WYGR AM 1530 under the direction of Robert Womack. Holy Family currently purchases about 22 hours of air time each week on Grand Rapids area stations WPRR, WTKG, AND WMJH and will likely bring a full-time Catholic-based religious format to AM 1140.


• News-talk WMKT AM 1270 Charlevoix was granted a construction permit to increase daytime power from 15,000 to 50,000 watts. A similar construction permit for a power increase to 50,000 watts was canceled late last year just prior to its expiration.


• J&J Broadcasting's acquisition of pop WIMI-FM 99.7 and country WJMS AM 590 Ironwood from Magellan/Barracuda Broadcasting has closed. Sale price was $950,000.


• No notable activity for February 5, 8-9, and 16-18 (Note, the FCC was closed for 5 days because of weather and President's Day).


• Religious WCWB FM 90.1 Coldwater was granted a construction permit to increase power from 250 watts (vertical polarization) @ 62 feet from near Coldwater in Branch County to 25,000 watts (vertical) @ 279 feet from near Battle Creek in Calhoun County.


• Larlen Communications was granted its license to cover for WXPZ FM 90.1 Clyde Township (Saugatuck). The station has also received temporary authority to remain silent until August.


• No notable activity for February 22-23.


• Urban LPFM WUVS-LP 103.7 was granted a construction permit to change its licensed broadcast location slightly within Muskegon.


• The FCC has granted the voluntary assignment of license for FM translator W237CZ 95.3 Hudsonville to Goodrich Radio from Horizon Christian Fellowship.


• A $1,500 fine to religious WMSD FM 90.9 Rose City was upheld by the FCC for failing to timely file a license renewal application in 2004. Forfeiture Order (.pdf)
