• Sovereign Communications closed on its purchase of 11 Upper Peninsula radio stations from Northern Star Broadcasting on March 18th. Included in the $3.5 million deal were WYSS-FM, WMKD-FM, WKNW AM in Sault Ste Marie area; WJPD-FM, WUPK-FM, WNGE-FM, WDMJ AM, and WIAN AM in the Marquette area; WIMK-FM, WZNL-FM and WMIQ AM in Iron Mountain. The deal had first been announced over one year ago.

• Northern Star Broadcasting's WIHC FM 97.9 Newberry, the company's lone remaining U.P. radio station, has applied for special temporary authority to remain silent. The station has primarily been off the air since the first half of 2010, but apparently had resumed operations long enough for it to 'reset' the FCC's clock that would force license cancellation if the station hadn't resumed operations within one year.
