Grand Rapids Press:
Local radio pioneer Ed "Uncle Buck" Buchanan is signing off WLAV-FM (96.9)'s "The Kevin Matthews Morning Show," but the veteran announcer and producer of 44 years isn't retiring completely just yet. The lifelong Grand Rapids resident, 62, was to announce his departure from the station on air at 7:30 a.m. today(Thursday). His last day is Friday.
"I'm tired of getting up at three in the morning every day. I've been doing that a long time," said Buchanan, sitting in the breakroom at LAV's studios on Wednesday. "I've been doing radio in this market since 1967. So, you know, it's time to start slowin' down a little bit. It's a bittersweet thing."
Maybe not so bittersweet for Kevin Matthews, who had a quick answer to the question of whether he will miss his former boss and current sidekick... Veteran radio personality 'Uncle Buck' signs off WLAV's morning show (Thu, 3/10)
