Upper Peninsula CBS affiliate WJMN-TV Ch. 3, along with its parent station WFRV-TV Ch. 5 Green Bay, WI, is being sold by Liberty Media to Nexstar for $20M reports Broadcasting & Cable.
Liberty purchased the stations from CBS in 2007 in a complex sales agreement that was reportedly completed by Liberty returning $64 million worth of CBS stock (7,591,249 shares) along with $170 million in cash in exchange for the licenses of WFRV and WJMN.
The Midland Daily News has published a profile of Great Lakes Loons and U-M woman's basketball broadcaster Matt Park this morning. The Central Michigan University and Brighton High School grad is also heard on WLUN-FM 100.9 Pinconning broadcasting high school football and basketball from Saginaw Valley League schools.
Fenton's WCXI AM 1160 is set to debut a new country music show hosted by Darcy Day, daughter of legendary country jock Deano Day, on Sunday April 10th at 4 p.m., reports The Fenton Patch. 'Uncle' Deano passed away April 10th, 2009 and was best known during his tenure at Detroit radio stations WDEE AM 1500 and WCXI AM 1130 in Detroit. He later worked for the current WCXI.
WDIV wins by a hair (or two): The station's web site boasts that two of its female anchors sport the 'Best Hair on Detroit Television', at least according to an unscientific web poll. The top three (out of 18): WDIV's Lauren Podell and Rhonda Walker followed by WJBK's Andrea Isom.
Dan Zako has been elevated from Local to General Sales Manager at Citadel Broadcasting's pop WDVD-FM 96.3 and variety hits WDRQ-FM 93.1. Marty Rosenberg is the new Local Sales Manager for WDVD and WDRQ.
Delta College's PBS station WDCQ-TV Ch. 19 Bay City is planning to air a four-part series focused on Autism during April. The first two specials are scheduled for Tuesday, April 12th with the final two set for two weeks later on April 26th. The Saginaw News has more details in this story.
