Detroit Free Press:

Hearing that maverick broadcasters plan to broadcast live coverage of the Woodward Dream Cruise, the auto event's lawyer fired an e-mail Tuesday to the group's leader demanding that he shut down his Web site. But Stephen Greene said he and partner Brian Jones will plan to be seen on the DreamCruiseLive.com Web site on Aug. 20 and heard on WDTW-AM (1310).

She came into our homes for years as the host of Prize Movie on WXYZ, but now fans of Rita Bell can own a piece of her legacy forever. Items in the Rita Bell collection will be auctioned off at DuMouchelle in Detroit this weekend.

Doug Fest 2011 Battle of the Bands search set for Aug 20

93.1 Doug-FM will be looking for Detroit's best bands on Saturday, August 20th at 7:00 p.m. at Hamlin Pub at 25 Mile Rd and Van Dyke in Shelby Township. Ten bands will compete for the chance to play the second stage at DTE Energy Music Theatre to open for the headliners of Doug Fest 2011.

The first place winner will play the first night of Doug Fest 2011, Saturday, August 27th, starring Alice Cooper and Ace Frehley. The runner-up will play the second night of Doug Fest 2011, Sunday, August 28, featuring Whitesnake and Tesla. Both winning bands will be paid $1,000 to perform.

The station is still accepting band submissions for the top ten. The deadline for all submissions is Friday, August 12th at 5:00 p.m. For information on how to submit a band, please visit 931DougFM.com.

Malcolm Maddox, a weekend anchor at WKEF (Dayton, OH), will join Detroit ABC affiliate WXYZ next week as a weekend morning anchor. Maddox is a former U.S. marine who began his broadcast career more than ten years ago, working first as a photojournalist at WGBA in Green Bay, KUSI in San Diego and WXPI in Pittsburgh. Before joining WKEF, he was also a reporter at WIAT in Birmingham.
