Tom Kowalski, longtime Detroit Lions writer for Booth Newspapers and MLive.com, died this morning, according to his fiancee, Diane Wolan. Kowalski, 51, was found unresponsive at his home and was taken to DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township in Oakland County, where he was pronounced dead.

Mickey Redmond knew it was over. He came roaring down the right wing like he had countless times before when he encountered St. Louis Blues' defenseman Barcley Plager.
"I turned and he was right next to me," Redmond said. "Normally, I'd go right by him. There was no decision, really. Just the way it was. Nobody had to tell me. I knew it first."
