WZZM-TV Grand Rapids:

A local radio station in Holland is paying tribute to one of its longest and best-known employees Tuesday. Juke Van Oss has been a radio talk-show host for 60 years. Tuesday marks his 60th anniversary in the radio business since starting back in 1951. Tuesday also marks the 50th anniversary of his "Talk of the Town" program which he continues to host at WHTC in Holland.

WXYZ-TV announces Lions preseason broadcast coverage

WXYZ-TV Ch. 7 Detroit is the new television partner of the Detroit Lions for coverage of Lions' preseason games beginning with the first home game on Friday, August 12th. WXYZ will broadcast the following games:

Friday, August 12th, 7:30 p.m. against the Cincinnati Bengals (If the game is not sold out 72 hours prior to broadcast, WXYZ will broadcast the game on a taped-delay basis at 9:30 p.m. Pregame coverage of "Lions Tailgate" will begin at 9:00 p.m.)

Friday, August 19th, 7:30 p.m. at Cleveland Browns

Thursday, September 1st, 6:30 p.m. at Buffalo Bills

NFL broadcast veteran, Matt Shepard, will provide play-by-play coverage, and will be joined by former Lions tight end and NFL analyst, Rob Rubick, in the broadcast booth. WXYZ anchor/reporter, Tom Leyden, will provide in-game reports from the sidelines.

All the games will be preceded by a half-hour pregame show, "Lions Tailgate." Lions Tailgate will be hosted by WXYZ Sports Director Don Shane and Tom Leyden, with reports from Lions and NFL Hall of Famer, Charlie Sanders. The show will give viewers a preview of the upcoming game including interviews with coaches and key players, and insight into the team's strategy.

"We're pleased to partner with the Detroit Lions to bring this very special football preseason coverage to fans across Metro Detroit," said WXYZ Vice-President and General Manager Ed Fernandez. "This is an exciting time for the team and for sports fans in our area, and we're glad to be able to bring all the action to Lions fans in Metro Detroit and across the state."

Preseason games will be carried out-state on the following Lions network affiliates: WXMI-TV Ch. 17 Grand Rapids; WNEM-TV Ch. 5 Flint, Bay City, Saginaw; WSYM-TV Ch. 47 Lansing; WFQX-TV Ch.32 Cadillac, Traverse City; and WJMN-TV Ch. 3 Marquette.

WXYZ is also the new home of the Ford Lions Report Live, a one-hour live program that airs every Sunday during the regular season from 11 a.m. - noon in the Detroit area, and 11:30 a.m. - noon on the Lions network affiliates throughout Michigan.

 


 

Grand Rapids Press:

Detroit Lions fans in West Michigan will have to wait a few extra hours to catch their first glimpse of the 2011 team. WXMI-TV is contractually obligated by Fox to show the Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Kansas City Chiefs preseason game live at 8 p.m. Friday. The Lions' preseason opener at Ford Field against the Cincinnati Bengals, therefore, will have to be aired on a tape delay basis, likely around 11 p.m.

Holland Sentinel:

The 2011 preseason "GVSU Football Radio Road Show" will get Laker fans ready for the season beginning on Thursday. The Football Radio Road Show will be an hour-long program featuring Grand Valley State University Head Football Coach Matt Mitchell. There will also be special guests to discuss the upcoming season.
